THE OVERVIEW
What is Cline?
Cline is an AI coding agent that reads project files, edits code and runs development tools from an editor or a standalone desktop workspace. Its Plan and Act modes let a developer discuss an approach before permitting tool actions, and checkpoints provide a way to undo changes. File and folder references supply project context without manually copying everything into chat. Cline also supports integrations through MCP servers and reusable instructions through skills and hooks. The desktop application is a beta for macOS, Windows and Linux, so users should expect rough edges. The open-source software is free for individuals, but model inference is usage-based and may incur provider or Cline credit charges.
